Maintenance of the POSEIDON fixed stations network
On the 11th of July 2019 the scheduled maintenance survey for the fixed mooring buoys of the POSEIDON system was realized. The duration of the cruise was 13 days and it included all the moored buoys. At the time being, there are 6 fully functional buoys which are located: 1 in Saronikos Sea, 1 in north Aegean Sea (south of Athos), 1 in central Aegean Sea (Mykonos), 2 in Cretan Sea (north of Heraklion - Crete) and 1 in Ionian Sea (west of Pylos).
During the survey, the necessary maintenance works took place in order to repair the various damages caused by the environmental conditions and the human factor. At the same time, along with the maintenance, numerous scientific actions took place such as: (a) data recovery from the subsea sensors of the buoys, (b) sea water sampling in the Cretan Sea, (c) deployment of argos floats in the north Aegean, the Cretan, the Ionian and the Myrtoan Sea and (d) CTD casts at the deployment positions of all the boys and the argos floats. The survey was completed successfully on the 23rd of July.
