Jerico S3 kick-off meeting, San Sebastian, Spain, February 2020
The kick-off meeting of Jerico S3 organized by AZTI at San Sebastian, Spain from 17 to 21 of February 2020. JERICO-S3 is a four years H2020 project which aims to provide a state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose and visionary observational Research Infrastructure (RI), expertise and high-quality data on European coastal and shelf seas. The project will support world-class research, high-impact innovation and a window of European excellence worldwide. It will be structured regionally around four Pilot Super Sites (PSS) and 5 Integrated Regional Sites (IRS). Through this innovative structure, JERICO-S3 is targeting a more integrative approach to better observe the coastal ecosystem, raising up the scientific excellence and developing the potential of the different sites, with consideration of the regional and local ecosystems.
HCMR is one of the key partners of the project and has been assigned with the responsibility of co-leading WP4 (Pilot Supersites for innovative coastal monitoring) being also the coordinator of the Cretan Sea Supersite and WP6 (Data management for multidisciplinary coastal data). JERICO S3 is the third funding for the European coastal oceanography community after the JERICO and JERICO NEXT projects and it is considered the final step towards the ESFRI 2021 roadmap and the potential transformation into a European Research Infrastructure (RI) for the coastal zone.
